Edith

Privacy-first PDF tools for Chrome

Open, annotate, sign, and manage PDFs in Chrome without uploading your documents to the cloud. Edith keeps working files on your device, just like a desktop app should.

21-day free trial for premium features. One-time lifetime license for €19.99. No subscription. Available in 16 languages.

Your PDFs are yours

Cloud converters require upload. Edith does not. That is a product decision, not a footnote.

Zero-Server Architecture: 100% of PDF processing is done within the local Chrome sandbox using client-side JavaScript. Edith has no backend servers capable of receiving or storing your document content for free web tools or extension document editing.

Read our website Privacy Policy
  • PDF content, annotations, signatures, and vault data stay in your browser profile (Chrome extension)
  • Free web tools process files in memory only — no server upload, no licensing or telemetry API calls
  • No tracking or advertising cookies on the website or in the extension
  • Website scope: marketing pages and /tools only. Extension privacy is documented in Settings → Legal.

How it works

Edith is built for people who live in the browser but refuse to hand their documents to a cloud converter.

  1. Open any PDF

From your computer, Downloads, or a web page. Edith opens PDFs where you already work.

  2. Edit in place

Highlight, sign, manage pages, and fill forms without leaving the browser.

  3. Save locally

Export back to your device. Your document content is not uploaded to Edith servers.

Common questions

Does Edith upload my PDFs to the cloud?
No. Document content stays on your device. The Chrome extension uses our servers only for licensing, legal consent, and privacy-minimized telemetry — not your files. Free web tools on this site never upload PDFs for processing.
What does the Chrome extension track?
The extension sends limited, privacy-minimized telemetry: event names such as pdf_opened, annotation_used, or pages_managed, plus coarse context like feature used, file origin (local, web, or generated), plan tier, locale, and country code. We do not send document text, filenames, or page content. Install and license events use a device fingerprint so activations stay tied to your browser profile. Full details are in the extension under Settings → Legal → Privacy Policy. This website and free tools do not send extension telemetry. See our website Privacy Policy for how we handle data on edith.quinsy.app.
How do the free web tools work?
Each tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Files are processed in memory and downloaded locally. Nothing is sent to Edith servers, and the tools do not call licensing or telemetry APIs.
How long is the free trial?
New installs get 21 days of full premium access: page management, signing, vault, and more. No credit card required. After the trial, core PDF viewing stays free; premium tools need a lifetime license.
Is there a subscription?
No. Edith offers a 21 days free trial for premium extension features, then a one-time lifetime license for continued access.
Why is there no compress PDF tool on the website?
Meaningful PDF compression usually requires server-side processing, which means uploading your file. That conflicts with our privacy promise, so we do not offer it.
What languages does Edith support?
The Chrome extension UI is fully translated into 16 languages: Danish, German, English, Spanish, Estonian, French, Hebrew, Italian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Swedish. Edith follows your Chrome language by default, or you can pick a language in Settings.
